Installing Etchants Database on Linux PCs ---------------------------------------------- Before you install and run the Etchants Database, you should check the following minimum system requirements: - OpenSuse, Debian, Slackware, Fedora, Gentoo, Ubuntu, - RAM: Recommended 1 Gb RAM or greater, - Hard disk free space: 150 Mb, - Recomended screen resolution: 800 x 600 pixels or higher, - Browser Mozilla, Safari or any other browser which support the Java script. In order to install the Etchants Database, please download the database from the web site: http://www.steeldata.info/etch/etch.html Once the download has finished, please unzip the zip-file into the directory e.g. Etchants Database. 2. Installation and Running the Software ---------------------------------------- 1. Download the Etchants Database from the web site http://www.steeldata.info/etch/etch.html. 2. In the folder Downloads, double click the file (etch_mac_linux.zip or etch_demo_mac_linux.zip) and extract (unzip) the files into the folder Etchants Database. 3. Move the folder Etchants Database into the folder Documents. 4. In the folder Etchants Database, open the file etch.html with the Firefox browser. 5. Bookmark this page. 6. You may also create the 'Shortcut" to the Desktop. 7. Right click on desktop, then Create New and Link to application (etch.html file). 3. Uninstallating Etchants Database ----------------------------------- 1. Move the folder Etchants Database in the Trash. 4.
