Note: Abrasive wear can be the result of inadequate lubrication. The surfaces become dull to a degree that varies according to the coarseness and nature of the abrasive particles (figure 1). These particles gradually increase in number as material is worn away from the running surfaces and cage. Finally, the wear becomes an accelerating process that results in the failure of the bearing.
