Applications: Dies for die casting of aluminium or other light metals. Extrusion dies for aluminium or other non ferrous alloys. Forging dies and die holders for steel or other ferrous and non ferrous alloys. Hot shearing blades. Wear resistance parts, when nitrided. Injection or other moulds for plastic.

Heat Treatment
Hardening: Pre-heating: 780 - 820 ºC. Hardening: 1000 - 1040 ºC. After preheating, tools must be carried to another furnace, holding 30 min after soaking (after tool is fully heated throughout). Quenching may be done in: a) Salt bath at 500/550 ºC. b) Warm quenching oil. c) Vacuum, with high pressure circulated gas. d) Air blast.
Tempering: 540 - 650 ºC. Tempering temperatures should be suitable to the working condition, but 450/540 ºC range should be avoided because can cause excessive loss in toughness. Double tempering is required and after each one tools must cool down to room temperature. After soaking, holding time of at least 2h is necessary.
