TENAX350 Steel
Steel name: TENAX350
Diagram No.: 1939
AISI/SAE designation: H13 mod.
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.40% C 0.25% Si 5.30% Cr 1.80% Mo 0.65% V
Steel group: Hot work tool steels
Properties: AISI H13 mod. (reduced Si and P contents for better toughness, and increased Mo content providing higher temper resistance).
Applications: TENAX350 is suitable for general hot work applications where an optimum combination of strength and toughness are required, such forging dies and inserts, extrusion dies and components such as liners and containers, critical industrial knifes as well as plastic molds which demand high polishing surface finishing.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.
Heat Treatment
Hardening: Preheat tools at 595/650ºC (1100-1200°F) and equalize. Continue heating at 815/850°C (1500-1560°F) and equalize. Continue heating to hardening temperature at 990/1030ºC (1810-1885°F). For higher toughness: 1010°C (1850°F) is suggested.Holding time after temperature equalization: 15 to 30 minutes. Cooling: a) Oil, hot quenching 500/550°C (932-1022°F) b) Forced air c) Vacuum with gas quenching.
Tempering: Tools must be tempered immediately after hardening, as soon as they reach 60ºC (140°F). It is necessary, at least, double tempering; after each tempering, tools must be slowly cooled to room temperature. The first tempering treatment should be performed at least 540ºC (1004°F), and the other treatments between 540-650ºC (1004-1202°F), depending on the desired hardness, as shown on the tempering curve below.
