Polmax Steel

Steel name: Polmax
Diagram No.: 2016
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.38% C, 0.90% Si, 0.50% Mn, 13.60% Cr, 0.30% V
Steel group: Plastic mould tool steels
Properties: Lens moulds, moulds for cd, dvd and memory discs, moulds for medical applications.
Applications: No data
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.

Heat Treatment
Hardening: 1000–1050°C, but usually 1020–1030°C/Vacuum furnace with sufficient overpressure. High speed gas/circulating atmosphere. Martempering bath at 250–550°C, then cool in air. Warm oil (60–80°C).
Tempering: Temper at least twice with intermediate cooling to room temperature. The preferred tempering temperature is 250°C minimum. On exceptional occasion, the lowest temperature of 180°C is used for small simple inserts that require a hardness of 52-54 HRC.
Diagram note: The curves as shown in the tempering graph are valid for small samples. Actual hardness achieved after hardening and tempering depends on the mould size.
