Vidar 1 ESR Steel

Steel name: Vidar 1 ESR
Diagram No.: 2023
Mat.No. (Wr.Nr.) designation: 1.2343
EN designation: X37CrMoV5-1
AISI/SAE designation: H11
JIS designation: SKD 6
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.38% C, 1.00% Si, 0.40% Mn, 5.00% Cr, 1.30% Mo, 0.40% V
Steel group: Hot work tool steels
Applications: Vidar 1 ESR is suitable for both hot-work and plastic mould applications, especially large plastic moulds that require good toughness in combination with high surface finish obtained by polishing or texturing.
Note: Tempering graph: Air cooling of specimen 15 x 15 x 40 mm.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.

Heat Treatment
Hardening: 990-1010°C, normally 990-1000°C/30-45 min/High-speed gas/circulating atmosphere. Sufficient overpressure gas (e.g., N2) quenching in vacuum furnace. Martempering bath or fluidised bed at 500 - 550°C. Martempering bath or fluidised bed at 180 - 220°C. Warm oil, approx. 80°C.
Tempering: See the diagram.
Diagram note: Choose the tempering temperature according to the hardness required by reference to the tempering graph below. Temper at least three times for die-casting dies, and at least twice for other hotwork and plastic moulding applications. The tool should be cooled to room temperature between tempers. High-temperature temper above 550°C is recommended. The minimum holding time at tempering temperature is 2 hours. To avoid “tempering brittleness”, do not temper in the range of 425-550°C.
