CX Steel

Steel name: CX
Diagram No.: 2037
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.34% C, 0.25% Si, 0.50% Mn, 1.15% Cr, 0.75% Mo, 2.85% Ni, 0.10% V
Steel group: Tool steels, die steels
Properties: An alloy composition designed to provide maximum fracture toughness over a full range of service temperatures normally encountered in forging applications.
Applications: Hammer dies, die holders, piston rods, rams, bolster plates, sow blocks, peripheral production components requiring excellent fracture toughness, well suited for non-forging applications where fracture toughness is a prime consideration, e.g., shafting, rolls, etc.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.

Heat Treatment
Hardening: Heat to 1550/1600 F (840/870 C) and Hold 1/2 hr./inch (25 mm). Drop to 1450 F (790 C) and Hold 2 hrs. Quench (Oil, Polymer or Molten salt bath). Immediately temper according to the Tempering Table. Lower severity quenchants may require a downward adjustment to tempering temperature.
Tempering: See the diagram.
