ShelleX Steel
Steel name: ShelleX
Diagram No.: 2043
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.36% C, 0.90% Si, 0.60% Mn, 5.00% Cr, 2.85% Mo, 0.25% V
Steel group: Tool steels
Properties: No data
Applications: Finkl ShelleX is a remarkably tough, long lasting, Cr-Mo-V steel with excellent high temperature physical properties. Shellex was designed for those applications that need greater wear, tempering resistance, or heat checking resistance than can be obtained from H11 or H13 types of die steels.
ShelleX is well suited for die inserts and press forging dies, tooling for the aluminum, zinc, and magnesium die casting industry, for cores, sleeves, and slides, and for certain plastic injection and transfer molds.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.
Heat Treatment
Hardening: 1850-1950°F (1010-1065°C) soaking 30 min. Vacuum furnace with 2 bar backfill min. or oil; 650-850°F (340-450°C).
Tempering: See figure; hold 1 hr per inch (25 min. per cm) of thickness. Double tempering recommended. Air.
