GKP (W-YW) Steel
Steel name: GKP (W-YW)
Diagram No.: 2238
UNS designation: K23280
DIN designation: 32CrMoNiV5
AMS designation: 6496 air melted, 6497 remelted, 6498 double vacuum melted
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.29-0.36% C, max. 0.30% Si, 0.70-1.20% Mn, 1.10-1.60% Cr, 0.90-1.40% Mo, 0.50-1.00% Ni, 0.20-0.40% V, 0.10-0.30% Al
Steel group: Nitriding steels
Properties: Nitriding solutions offer very hard surfaces, high compressive stresses and therefore high fatigue properties. Nevertheless, the nitriding depth is often limited to 500 microns which is not suitable for numerous applications.
Applications: Heavily loaded gears for the aerospace industry or other industrial applications. Shafts in the aerospace or motor racing industries.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.
Heat Treatment
Hardening: 940°C / 1724°F – 30 min, oil quenching.
Tempering: See the diagram.
