Ovako 477L Steel

Steel name: Ovako 477L
Diagram No.: 2829
DIN designation: 40SiCrMnMo7-6-6
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.38-0.42% C, 1.65-1.80% Si, 1.40-1.55% Mn, max. 0.020% P, 0.012-0.020% S, 1.50-1.60% Cr, 0.43-0.47% Mo, max. 0.30% Ni
Steel group: Medium carbon steels
Properties: A medium carbon steel for quench and tempering steel with high hardenability. Ovako 477L has high tensile strength in combination with high toughness, and it is often used for large axles and machine parts. By using air– or gas-quenching it is possible to reduce the amount of quenching distortion. Additionally the use of quenching medias such as oil and salt may be avoided, which improves both safety and environment. The sulphur content is in a low and narrow range for consistent machinability.
Applications: Suitable for induction or flame hardening.
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.

Heat Treatment
Hardening: 900-950°C, in air,gas or oil.
Tempering: 160-700°C, see the tempering diagram.
