HS6-5-4, X40CrMoV5-1 Steel
Steel name: HS6-5-4, X40CrMoV5-1
Diagram No.: 2849
Chemical composition in weight %: Based on experience gained in the manufacture of wear-resistant MMC, the HSS powder (HS6-5-4) was screened to a size fraction of 80–150 microns in order to obtain the desired dispersion of the HHS grains, and the HWS powder (X40CrMoV5-1) was screened to a grain size of <80 microns. These fractions were then mixed in an asymmetric moved mixer for one hour and filled into metal capsules. The capsules were sealed by TIG welding, evacuated and subjected to hot isostatic pressing for four hours at 1150°C and 100 MPa to achieve complete densification.
Steel group: PM tool steels
Properties: No data
Applications: No data
Reference: Not shown in this demo version.
Heat Treatment
Hardening: 1050°C, 1100°C and 1150°C
Tempering: Up to 625 C, 2 hours.
Diagram note: Tempering diagram of the double dispersed PM-steels quenched from different hardening temperatures. The diagram shows three scattering bands: one for pure HWS, one for HWS with the addition of 15 vol.-% of HSS (HWS15) and one for HWS with the addition of 30 vol.-% of HSS (HWS30). While the upper border lines are represented by the hardness curve derived at a hardening temperature of 1150°C, the lower border comes from austenitising at 1050°C.
