16NiCrS4 Steel

Steel name: 16NiCrS4
Diagram No.: 1515
DIN designation: 16NiCrS4
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.13-0.22% C, 0.05-0.15% Si, 0.70-1.10% Mn, max. 0.035% P, 0.035-0.050% S, 0.60-1.20% Cr, 0.80-1.40% Ni, 0.05-0.20% Mo
Steel group: Case hardening steels
Applications: Ovako 146S is an ingot cast case hardening steel with good dimension stability and high toughness. The chemical composition is well controlled to give the steel a controlled hardenability towards the high end of the EN 10084:1998 range for 16NiCrS4. It has reduced silicon content for reduced propensity for internal oxidation during carburizing. Regulated sulphur content ensures good machinability properties.
Comment: Similar designations: SS 2511, 16NCD5 (AFNOR), 637 A 16 (BS). Ms=0 C, Ac1=714 C, Ac3=799 C. 146S: Jominy hardenability according to ASTM A255. Average value with +/- standard deviation.
