4620 Steel
Steel name: 4620
Diagram No.: 1699
AISI/SAE designation: 4620
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.19% C, 0.32% Si, 0.60% Mn, 0.013% P, 0.019% S, 0.20% Cr, 1.75% Ni, 0.22% Mo, 0.05% Cu
Steel group: Alloy steels
Applications: No data
Comment: The relationship between hardness and section size was determined using data from the Jominy end quench test, and air hardenability test, and controlled cooling tests. It must be remembered that the results for a particular steel type are based on one chemical analysis and one austenitizing temperature. Variations of these will affect hardenability, as shown by the Jominy hardenability bands (shaded area). Therefore, the charts should be used to determine estimated, rather than exact, hardness values.
