Cordierite
Chemical formula: 2MgO x 2Al2O3 x 5SiO2
Modifications: Three modifications of cordierite are known, alpha, beta and mi. Alpha-cordierite is the stable high temperature from above 830oC. It can be easily be super-cooled. Beta-cordierite is the stable low-temperature polymorph and Mi-cordierite is a metastable low-temperature polumorph.
